“Intellectual property is the oil of the 21st century.” - Mark Getty
My two cents:
You know what’s interesting? Back when the printing press was first invented, it was seen as a pirate machine and was outlawed immediately. There were whole underground communities dedicated to smuggling around printed books, and no matter how much the State tried to stop them, they could not stop the flow of information.
They had the same tantrum when the cassette tape was first introduced. “Oh noes!” they cried, “no one will want to buy vinyls anymore and we won’t make any money! What on Earth will we do now?!” Sell tapes, dipshit. And sell tapes they did.
Same thing happened when the CD came out. And then the DVD. Hmm, is there a pattern here I see?
Long story short: we will always come up with more efficient and better ways to spread information, to spread data. And it doesn’t matter who you are - the RIAA, the film industry, the government, whatever - you will get no where by simply throwing tantrums and making it harder for people to spread information. What you need to do is change with the times. Stop bitching, and start thinking about what the Internet and BitTorrent could mean for your business. Think how you can use these to your advantage, instead of being an eight-year-old girl and stomping your feet.
To conclude, a brilliant comment I saw on Slashdot:
“A bunch of greedy, selfish people are no match for millions of greedy, selfish people.”
You’re not going to stop us. So why not work along us? :)
